Here you'll find a list of upcoming events at the museum as well as other events we think are of interest to you, our audience. You can also check out past events to see what kind of things are going on at the National Museum of the Pacific War!

2008

SEPTEMBER 11 - PATRIOT DAY PROGRAM

A special commemoration remembering the tragic loss of the 2,819 people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States will be held on September 11th at 1:30 p.m. in the historic Ballroom of the Admiral Nimitz Museum. Visitors will be encouraged to share their recollections of that day.

There will be a presentation of the 50-minute Lou Reda production "HERO SHIPS: USS New York" followed by a discussion program. The USS New York, one of the most technologically advanced vessels in America’s arsenal, was forged from the steel of the World Trade Center.

Bill Groneman, a Captain with the NYFD on September 11, 2001 will be a special guest at the Museum’s Patriot Day program. He will be available to share memories and experiences, as well as answer questions after the screening of the film. Mr. Groneman is now retired from the NYFD and is a resident of Kerrville, TX.

The Patriot Day film and program are free of charge. Visitors who want to tour the Museum will be able to do so with the purchase of a regular admission ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.

SEPTEMBER 13-14 - PACIFIC COMBAT LIVING HISTORY PROGRAM

Three programs daily at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Pacific Combat Zone. Tickets are $5.00 for Adults, $3 for Students and free for children under age 6 and World War II veterans.

This popular living history program uses objects from the museum's education collection to bring World War II to life for visitors as re-enactors demonstrate the weapons and discuss the tactics and strategy that won the war. The Pacific Combat Zone is located two blocks northeast of the museum complex on E. Austin Street between Elk and Lee.

SEPTEMBER 20-21 - ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

This year’s Symposium, Closing the Circle: The Philippines and Iwo Jima will focus on two of the most fascinating aspects of World War II. Even after a series of important victories by the Allies in 1944, the Japanese still showed no signs of capitulation. Thus Allied commanders decided to move ahead on two key goals: the long awaited return to the Philippines and the need to capture Iwo Jima.

Details of the Symposium are:

Place: Fredericksburg High School Auditorium
Highway 16 South at Stadium Drive
Fredericksburg, Texas
Date: September 20 and 21, 2008
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day

Cost: The symposium is open to the public. $40 per person for members of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation; $50 for non-members. Students with appropriate ID are FREE and encouraged to attend, but must register. Box lunches are available for an additional $9 each day. Attendees may also have dinner with the panelists in the Nimitz Ballroom for an additional $40 per person.

The National Pearl Harbor Survivors Association has selected the National Museum of the Pacific War as the site for their annual convention. Many activities are in the planning stages. Please check back for details.
